abstract

Since March 2015 Yemeni people is experiencing one of the bloodiest conflicts in the country’s history. A conflict that is going beyond the international non-armed conflict boarders. A mixture of tribalism, sectarianism, proxy war, geopolitical interests and economic factors are heavily altering the Yemeni social fabric. Furthermore, both fighting parties are attacking cultural and archeological sites adding new losses to the long war casualty list. The paper tries to give voice to this cultural emergency, taking into account both the local context and the international legislation regarding the protection of cultural heritage during armed conflicts.
