Abstract
This essay collects a sort of concise anthology of excerpts concerning aspects of Ottoman culture frequently compared, or contrasted, with Persian culture, considered on the one hand ‘noble’ – when compared to the closer and more threatening, and therefore ‘ignoble’, ‘Turks’ –, on the other hand considered as potential ally of the Serenissima, capable of attacking the menacing Ottomans from the East. These human landscapes are brought to life by the theatricality and rhetoric of artistic representations emerging from the changing cultural scope of those ‘ferocious infidels’, enemies of Christianity, gradually becoming generous and noble bearers of the ‘Turchesca’ (or ‘Turkish’) culture.
