Abstract
È messo a tema l’attestarsi della concezione occidentale di ‘volontà’ ed è vagliato il valore paradigmatico che, nel mondo greco-romano, si era imposto, accanto alle principali evoluzioni successivamente documentabili nella filosofia medioevale e moderna. Si pensi ad Agostino, Duns Scoto, Descartes e alla filosofia tedesca del Novecento. Il concetto moderno di ‘volontà’ non solo pare emanciparsi dalla connessione con il desiderium e con l’adpetitio; ma va definendosi, da un lato, intorno alla problematica distinzione tra ‘will’ e ‘free-will’; dall’altro, intorno al significato di ‘intenzionalità’ e al concetto di ‘agent-causality’. Ne risentono la storia delle idee, ma anche le contemporanee prospettive della filosofia morale, della sociologia e della psicologia, della moderna ricerca applicata al rapporto mente/corpo.
