Abstract
The author aims to examine all acrostic carmina epigraphica from Africa in order to study some special ‘techniques’ of addressing an epigraphic message. Acrostichs affect above all the memory of the dead. The acrostic layout sometimes conceals the message addressed to the viator, but it does not weaken the message in itself.
