CARMEN : un projet européen sur l’étude des Carmina latina epigraphica – le cas des épigrammes funéraires
Abstract
The Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) is coordinating a training programme for 11 doctoral students in a European context with 7 partners under the direction of the author. CARMEN stands for ‘Communal Art – Reconceptualising Metrical Epigraphy Network’, in which historians, philologists and archaeologists will work together on the study of poetry as an integral part of everyday Roman culture. At the heart of the project are the Roman verse inscriptions, the Carmina Epigraphica on tombstones and other monuments. They are eloquent testimonies of social relations, of the evolution of language, but also of aesthetic conceptions in Rome and in the provinces.
