Ipovisione e insegnamento linguistico

Abstract

The starting point of this paper is the influence a handicap has in the process of knowing and in language development. For this reason it tries to provide insights on how to face visual impairments in the school environment. At the beginning, the paper focuses on some of the problems of a partially-sighted child, who is situated somewhere in the middle between a normal-sighted and a blind child. In order to help such students develop language skills, the teachers need to pay attention on two different aspects: on the one hand the development of knowledge, skills and abilities needed to provide answers to the student’s needs, on the other hand the student’s limitations. The first two paragraphs focus on low vision difficulties, whereas the third discusses the influence of the visual impairment on learning and provides suggestions for teaching action.
