Abstract
In the study, we propose a cross-disciplinary approach to the multi-faceted nature of intercultural and interlinguistic mediation in Italy. Subsequently, we present a series of competences that mediators should have in order to carry out mediation. Competences are exposed starting from Sciences that constitute mediation according to our specific field of research, language education. They include: a linguistic competence, an extralinguistic competence and an interpersonal competence. Starting from the concept of communicative competence, we try to define techniques and strategies of mediation according to the proposal of the Venetian school. As a conclusion, we present a detailed list of techniques and strategies used by mediators in a mediation’s session.
