Meeting a River

Artistic Methods for Practicing River Relations

crossmark logo

Abstract

Hydroformations investigates the Rhine as an entity in their own right through artistic methods that seek to enable the river to voice themselves. Emerging from prior engagement with the Bíobío River, the project is grounded in embodied encounters. This paper weaves ecological and political histories of both rivers, reflects on practices of meeting, listening, and sensing, and explores sedimentation as a material-discursive concept for confronting injustice and fostering riverine relations.
