Abstract
This study is a first look at the public perception of variation in Cypriot Turkish by young adult Turkish Cypriots. Young adult Turkish Cypriots indicated their opinions on a map and in comments. All asserted that regional variation within Cypriot Turkish does exist, despite ongoing dialect levelling. Variation is primarily attributed to each of the main urban centers of the area and is largely associated with differing positions along the continuum between Cypriot and Standard Turkish. The amount of Greek vocabulary is also identified as a source of variation.
