Abstract

The Neff donation consists of a series of materials related to the restoration of the Lion (Chimera) in Piazzetta San Marco (1892): drawings signed L. Vendrasco, photos by G.B. Brusa, a bronze fragment of the Lion and a letter from 1917, signed Mathilde Auckley Donoho. They where donated in 1900 to R.G. Donoho, the American painter, by L. Vendrasco, master-restorer of Palazzo Ducale and of the columns of San Teodoro and of the Lion. Other figures of Americans can be associated with this context: Etta Macy, connected to Vendrasco, also friend of Eleonora Duse and cited by D’Annunzio; or Franklin Torrey, the American Consul in Florence.
