Grandfathers, Fathers and Sons in Contemporary Mizrahi Poetry
Abstract
This essay examines the representation of grandfathers and fathers in contemporary Mizrahi poetry through the poetic works of Almog Behar, Mati Shemoelof, and Shlomi Hatuka. It investigates how the poetic narratives of these writers shape these masculine figures and whether they function as models in the construction of Mizrahi masculinities. Throughout this paper, it can be observed that the poets’ desire to save their grandfathers’ histories and migration experiences from oblivion permeates their verses, leading to a deeper identification with the emotions and experiences of their grandfathers than those of their fathers.
