Abstract

A ceramic fragment, likely from an amphora or possibly a hydria, was recovered from a sacred area within the Etruscan-Samnite site of Fratte (Salerno), where a water-related cult was practiced. The sherd bears a Greek graffito dedicating it to Herakles and can be dated to between the late fourth and early third century BCE. This inscription forms part of a wider collection of inscriptions from Fratte, including several other Greek texts dating from the sixth to the third centuries BCE. Taken together, these attestations reflect the sustained presence of Greek cultural influence and its interaction with local Etruscan and Italic traditions.
