Chapter | Περὶ τῆς ὡραιοτάτης Βενετίας: un elogio settecentesco
Abstract
The short poem Περὶ τῆς ὡραιοτάτης Βενετίας is dedicated to Venice and it constitutes an example of the exchange of books, stories, words and people between Venice and Greece; that is useful for the reconstruction of the cultural-historical context during the eighteenth century. From the very first verses, the composition renders an image of a triumphant Venice of great wealth and prestige. Through the analysis of the text, some aspects of the cultural relations between the Republic and its Greek-speaking people are highlighted.
