Capitolo | Fortuna y traducción de las relaciones acerca del Lejano Oriente en España y Europa
Abstract
The article focuses on Bernardino de Escalante’s 1577 treatise on the Portuguese exploration of the Far East and China and its English versions (Frampton 1579 and Osborne 1745). The aim of this essay is studying how information about China spread across Europe in the Modern Age thanks to Spanish publications. To reach our objective we carried out a textual analysis based on two levels, i.e. a structural level and a lexical level, in order to ascertain the active role of the translator(s) in contributing to the circulation of technical and scientific knowledge throughout Europe.
