Abstract

The mise en page and mise en texte of medieval inscriptions are functional in highlighting individual parts and words of their texts. The ways in which the text is organised in the epigraphic space and the graphic space, as well as the scansion within the text therefore follow precise strategies. The examples proposed are diachronically distributed from the early to the late Middle Ages and come from geographical (and cultural) areas even very distant from each other, ranging from Bobbio to San Vincenzo al Volturno to Padua and Rome, in a path that crosses the entire Peninsula.
