Riflessioni sulla dialettica pubblico / privato nei beni culturali

Abstract

Public and private are not antithetical. When these two spheres fail to collaborate, social wealth, profit, possibility of growth and opportunities are precluded. On the one hand, the individual pursuit of profit, which is distinctive of private entrepreneurship, compensates for intrinsic risks; on the other hand, public institutions, although excessively paranoid and hampered by protocols, are necessary and create value. In this paper, I argue that the notion of public should be associated with the nature of the service provided rather than with the legal status of the provider.
