Abstract
Law No. 69 of 21 May 2021 establishes that the Italian Republic recognises, promotes, and protects Italian Sign Language (LIS) and Tactile Italian Sign Language (LISt). Furthermore, it recognises the roles of LIS and LISt interpreters, specifying that the title of interpreter is obtained upon completion of a bachelor’s degree. Similar bachelor’s programmes have been offered since 2003 in Norway, where, despite the three-year duration of the course, considerable attention is given to the topic of deafblindness. Based on teaching experiences in Italy and Norway, the author proposes the introduction of a module dedicated to ‘Deafblindness and LISt’ as part of the training for guide interpreters in Italy.
