Abstract

This paper examines the Muro Dipinto of Dozza, an open-air art initiative that has turned the medieval village into a year-round cultural destination, with about 373,000 pedestrian entries recorded between March 2022 and February 2023. Beyond its tourism impact, the case highlights the challenges of preserving murals exposed to weathering and mass visitation. Dozza exemplifies how a community-based artistic project can become enduring cultural heritage, raising key questions on conservation, management, and sustainable valorization.
