Le sfide di una biblioteca digitale del latino tardoantico

Struttura, canone e questioni aperte di codifica e visualizzazione

Abstract

This paper focuses on different aspects of the DigilibLT project (Digital Library of Late Antique Latin Text), illustrating not only his functionality, but also problems and difficulties in terms of project building and management. To create a digital library, the indisputable starting point is the definition of the canon of the texts to be included; in this sense, our selection, based on late antique Latin texts, pagan and in prose, revealed some critical point. First of all, since most of these works have technical-scientific or educational purposes, they are in many cases accompanied by diagrams, images and symbols, a graphic apparatus that often can be made digital only with some difficulties. Besides, on a more general level, we will also explain how the strong participation of young people in the team has played a crucial role in the development of the project; it has also contributed to enrich the CV of plenty humanist graduates with significant competencies in the field of the Digital Humanities.
