Standard e interoperabilità degli archivi digitali archeologici: il progetto ARIADNE

Abstract

The increasing use of digital documentation has created an uncontrolled growth of archaeological datasets, determining a fragmentation that makes data reuse difficult. Starting from this consideration, the European project ARIADNE has undertaken a research of methods and tools to overcome linguistic, administrative and data organisation barriers that prevent the integration of datasets related on location, period or subject. Such research aims at creating a registry of online accessible archaeological resources, enabling resource discovery via a unified portal. Such research functionality will enable facet queries, i.e. by theme, period or location. Moreover, the project is producing a number of services that improve data access, for example the visualisation of graphical information (images, 3D models), and develop specific documentation standards based on international standards such as the CIDOC CRM.
