For an Imperial Dimension
Ca’ Foscari and Venice facing Italian Colonialism and Imperialism (1868-1943)
abstract
With the conquest of the first colonial territories at the end of the nineteenth century, imperial rhetoric began to circulate not only among the Venetian calli but also among the desks of Ca’ Foscari. The public discourse as well as the scientific-academic one, interacting with the historical-cultural background of the former Dominant, contributed to redefine the urban and university space, leaving traces that are still visible today. Starting from these, an attempt will be made to describe the events and identify the interpreters of a page of local history that is still little known.
