Chapter | La città e i suoi falsi
Abstract
This paper deals with an instructive example of documentary falsification concerning cities and their history in the Marche. Epigraphic forgeries, which normally appear on paper, are objects of invention. They propose the celebration of a city for its ancient origin, the historical events around it, the descent from illustrious Roman figures, and celebrate local families, putting forward accounts of the origin of toponyms and institutions.
