Abstract
The first chapter provides an overview of the development and tradition of Mesopotamian hymns and prayers, focusing on the corpus of the Great Hymns and Prayers. After a complete list of all known manuscripts of the Great Hymns and Prayers, a brief analysis of the corpus is given, highlighting stylistic, linguistic and thematic features.
