abstract
This essay traces the challenges behind the reenactment of the Behaviour section of the main exhibition Work or Behaviour (Italian Pavilion) at the 36th Venice Biennale in 1972, under the curatorial direction of Renato Barilli. In 2017, after an intense research, Comportamento. Venice Biennale 1972. Italian Pavilion, with works by Gino De Dominicis, Luciano Fabro, Mario Merz, Germano Olivotto and Franco Vaccari was inaugurated at the Centre for Contemporary Art Luigi Pecci in Prato. Through a retrospective analysis, this paper provides a methodological example taking into account the modus operandi and the steps of this new art-historical operation.
