Chapter | 4 • Conclusioni: (Fine della) storia e metastoria
Abstract
The conclusive chapter underlines how the development of post-Quranic eschatological production aligned with the broader identity construction process of Islam among late antique monotheisms, by operating a dual movement: a reclaiming of ancient monotheistic traditions and, at the same time, a distancing from ‘other’ religious confessions. The reception and transformation of earlier eschatological elements aimed to neutralise uncertainty and mark continuity within a framework of clear religious distinctions.
