Chapter | Bindings of Manuscripts in the Vatican Library Between Current Condition and Ancient Inventories
Abstract
A homogeneous group of manuscripts from the ancient Latin collection of the Vatican Library, Vat. lat. 4195-4241, is examined to describe their bindings and the changes and replacement interventions; therefore the study tries to reconstruct with information from ancient catalogues the condition of the bindings when these books arrived in the Vatican Library. Ancient inventories are in fact a precious source for better understanding the development of the material history of the manuscripts.
