Abstract

The essay deals with a series of short poems composed in 1794 to celebrate a recent graduate from Pavia. It was possible to discover who authored these works thanks to the final acronym. His name was Pio Magenta, born 1771, a man who would hold high governmental positions throughout the Napoleonic period. After his forced retirement in 1814, he would dedicate the rest of his life to translating from Latin and to composing neoclassical lyrical poems, until he died in 1844.
