Abstract

This chapter aims to analyse territorial health inequalities in Italy from a diachronic perspective. The findings highlight a territorial gradient unfavourable to the South and Islands, with pronounced gender disparities disadvantaging women. While higher education levels seem to be protective across the country, the disadvantage of less educated individuals is more pronounced in the South. Additionally, a general deterioration over time is observed, with some exceptions linked to the COVID-19 pandemic. Territory emerges as a crucial factor in shaping health inequalities.
