Volume 2 | Monograph | Aspects of the Ablaita Prepositional System
Abstract
The possibility of penetrating the meaning of a text largely depends on a correct understanding of the semantic value of the prepositions employed. The synchronic and diachronic analysis of the relative contexts – carried out also considering the different ‘perspective’ that different languages may take in describing certain actions – has allowed here to reconstruct the use and value of prepositions employed in the Ritual and Chancery Texts of Ebla (ca. 2350 BC), modifying in some cases the interpretation of the passages in question, and to identify important changes that occurred in the Eblaite prepositional system in the period of about forty years covered by the Archives.
