abstract
The figure of the editor occupies a special place in the history in the Lombardo-Veneto - 19th century. The role of the editor becomes essential in the librarian and intellectual developing of the country. In those years, the Lombardo-Veneto area was subject to the Hapsburg domination, and all people involved in the publishing activities often use their business initiatives to disseminate the half-hidden ideas of the Risorgimento. Paolo Ripamonti-Carpano was a publisher in Milan but he also had a stationery shop and commercial affairs in Venice. Through his personal history and his business – reconstructed through unpublished documents –, he was the focus of those rising ideas. People like him, in collaboration with intellectuals and writers of his time, laid the foundations of modern publishing industry, including journalism, providing a vital contribution to the progress of the society.
