Capitolo | 6 • The Jesuit Censorship of Tycho Brahe
Abstract
In the early 1620s, the Jesuits active in Santo Antão college adhered to the geo-heliocentric model put forward by Tycho Brahe. From that moment onwards, Tycho became the astronomical authority in Lisbon. Nevertheless, the adoption of Tychonism was not a straightforward process as it has been described by historians of astronomy. Tycho was indeed subject to a long and complex process of integration that comprised the censorship of Tycho's confessional issues.
