Microstorie: Himera e i suoi comprensori
Abstract
The aim of this paper is to investigate aspects of the settlement organization of the territory of Himera (Northern Sicily) in the Archaic and Classical periods. The archaeological surveys and excavations carried out in a wide area around Himera, alongside Northern Imera, Torto and S. Leonardo rivers, allow us to sketch an analytical knowledge of the territory. The focus is to analyze the distinctive features of its constituent districts: morphological characters, sacred areas, ancient paths, intervisibility between villages and small sites contribute to define the boundaries of territory, and to understand the interconnections with other Greek colonies and indigenous villages.
