abstract

This article aims to shed a light on the use of the religious metaphor in its link to political discourse. Particularly emphasised in the De potestate regia et papali of John of Paris, this argumentative method is aimed to give strength and representativeness to the political speech by sustaining it as a communicative tool. If we have chosen to discuss this question in the treatise of John of Paris it’s for his original use of the metaphor, notably the one called duo luminaria in the course of his tract insofar as it serves him as a basis for destroying the theocratic positions he denounces.
