Abstract
This study is part of a four-year longitudinal investigation project and aims at examining the production and comprehension skills in Italian of a 12-year-old deaf child fitted with a cochlear implant. Since the participant showed considerable difficulties with passive sentences, she was given linguistic training based on explicitly teaching the syntactic rules involved in the derivation of this structure (verb argument structure, thematic theory, and syntactic A-movement). The child’s linguistics abilities were assessed before and after the syntactic intervention. Her linguistic abilities improved after the linguistic intervention.
