Abstract
This essay looks at particular types of ephemera, i.e. the fanzines produced by the punk scene in Turkey during the 1990s. Literally derived from the words ‘fan’ and ‘magazine’, fanzines played a very important role in the birth, growth and circulation of punk. Before the wide spread of the Internet, some fanzines in Turkey were written in English and exchanged via mail for the specific purpose of establishing contacts with the transactional punk subculture abroad. This contribution will analyse the exchange systems, contents and roles of these documents produced by the local scenes in Turkey in the 1990s, which have only come down to us in very rare copies.
