Abstract

Los muertos indóciles (2013) by Cristina Rivera Garza and Teoría general de la basura (2018) by Agustín Fernández Mallo, explore the relationships between literature and archive. Both works diagnose the current conditions of textual production and propose poetic paths for future literature. These works also pose reflections on the ‘poetics of documentality’, through the lens of ‘documentality’ and the ‘materiality of texts’. To understand the relevance of the documentary as a philosophical problem, the critic draws from Maurizio Ferraris and Katherine Hayles, to analyze textual materiality, the material conditions of contemporary digital and social world, ‘geological writings’, and ‘complex realism’.
