De la descripción auditiva a la descripción háptica
Abstract
Audio descriptions are the logical way to access paintings by blind individuals. However, tridimensional objects invite to be accessed through the sense of touch since it is volume what differentiates paintings from sculptures. This difference in the object to be accessed and in the type of sense to be used requires another accessibility tool: tactile description. The aim of this article is to explain step by step the process of transforming audio descriptions into tactile descriptions, using as a corpus the sculpture exhibition by Lucia Beijlsmit “Lo que oculta la piedra” (What Stone Hides). The results contributed not only to appreciate the artwork better, but also enhanced participants’ knowledge about rocks and the effort involved in carving stone for a sculpture.
