Abstract
This essay proposes a reflection on how the cultural filter of European doctors of the nineteenth century intervenes in the process of appropriation of indigenous knowledge about medicinal plants. The text used is the travel diary Viaje a Nueva Granada (1869) by the French physician Charles Saffray. The analysis of his descriptions of the flora are representative examples of the validation processes that come into play in the construction of scientific discourse on the interpretation of traditional indigenous medicine.
