Abstract
The essay aims to rescue the play El loco por fuerza from the shadows of Lope de Vega’s writings, based on an exhaustive analysis of the only ancient witness, a manuscript copy preserved at the National Library of Spain. To achieve this, the chapter gathers the critical perspectives on the work and presents the possible circumstances surrounding its composition. About textual aspects, it is offered a detailed study of the scribe’s behaviour, as well as a thorough examination of the textual state of the copy, which will be complemented by a sample of emendations for the most problematic cases in the text.
