Biografia di Dante: Enzo Biagi, Milo Manara e la Storia d’Italia a fumetti

Abstract

This essay aims to describe Dante’s role in Storia d’Italia a fumetti published by Mondadori in 1978. In particular, it focuses on the sections of the volume dedicated to Dante’s biography written by Enzo Biagi and Giuseppe Pardieri and illustrated by Milo Manara. After a quick overview of the evolution of the historiographical/didactic comics as a genre, this study analyses the language and the sources used by Biagi and Pardieri and their relationship with Manara’s illustrations. A brief reflection concerns the reasons for Manara’s dissatisfaction declared in his recent autobiography  A figura intera (2021).
