Abstract
This chapter explores the literary representations of the female prison system, a subject still largely overlooked in Catalan cultural and literary studies, to illuminate how this unique diegetic space is constructed and how imprisoned women are portrayed. The analysis compares two novels by female authors published in the postcrisis period that address the theme of women and imprisonment: Maria Guasch’s Els fills de Llacuna Park (2017) and Núria Cadenes’s Secundaris (2018). The chapter links sociological studies on penal exclusion systems from a gender perspective with literary representations. The authors also address key issues in the portrayal of women’s prisons and the profiles of incarcerated women, such as poverty, immigration, and how structural violence uniquely affects these women.
