Nuevas voces para el viejo conflicto, viejos conflictos para el nuevo mundo

Abstract

This chapter reflects on how the Basque conflict has shaped the corpus of contemporary Basque literature from 1976 to the present, with particular focus on the impact of social changes, such as feminism, and aesthetic developments. It identifies two main stages: the period from 1976 to 2000 and the period from 2001 to 2023. The chapter analyzes five representative Basque novels of the twenty-first century: Joseba Sarrionandia’s Lagun izoztua (2001), Juanjo Olasagarre’s Ezinezko maletak (2008), Lander Garro’s Gerra txikia (2014), Uxue Alberdi’s Jenisjoplin (2017), and Karmele Jaio’s Aitaren etxea (2019).
