Abstract
This essay analyzes Silencio (2018) by Clyo Mendoza. After a brief overview of the concept of documentary literature, this chapter discussessome precedents of this genre in contemporary Mexican literature. It also provides an analysis of Mendoza’s work within the framework of ideas from authors such as Ana Maria Amar and Beatriz Sarlo, among others. The critic argues that Mendoza simultaneously acts as both a witness and a mediator of her experiences, which she expresses through the fictional construction of various testimonies. Her work thus addresses the fundamental issue of how to give voice to the disappeared.
