Editorial Projects, Formats, and Services

Presentation
Alongside the publication of books and journals, Edizioni Ca’ Foscari also develops special editorial formats, designed to address diverse needs in research, dissemination, valorisation, and scholarly communication.

These projects, due to the nature of their content, their aims, and their modes of use, do not fully fit within traditional publishing models and therefore require dedicated solutions capable of integrating editorial expertise, digital design, and graphic and typographic care in the presentation of content. In this perspective, editorial work is understood not only as an activity of publication, but also as the development of forms and tools suited to the organisation, transmission, and dissemination of knowledge in digital environments and in the context of cultural communication.

Special Editorial Formats
  • computer Native digital projects

Edizioni Ca’ Foscari develops native digital projects conceived as tailor-made editorial and infrastructural solutions, defined according to the specific needs of each research project.

These publications and digital resources may take very different forms, depending on the nature of the content, the disciplinary field, the required modes of consultation, and the project’s scholarly and dissemination goals. These projects are based on a custom-made approach, which makes it possible to develop dedicated editorial and digital environments without forcing content into standardised models.

Thanks to in-house know-how that integrates editorial, digital, and project-based expertise, ECF is able to oversee the entire process: from defining the scholarly structure and the organisational model of the content, to designing workflows, and developing the technical solutions required for publication and the ongoing updating of online resources. In this area, we also employ standards and technologies such as EVT and TEI, together with data models, architectures, and publishing tools developed according to the characteristics of each individual project.

These solutions are particularly suited to resources that require complex structuring, continuous updating, content interoperability, and long-term stability, especially in the field of digital humanities.

  • co_present Custom presentation pages

Edizioni Ca’ Foscari develops custom presentation pages, conceived as tools for presentation, in-depth exploration, and visual communication. These are tailor-made solutions in which the organisation of content is combined with particular attention to graphic and typographic quality.

This format is especially suited to cases where the valorisation of content requires a dedicated communication framework and a non-standard design approach, capable of integrating clarity of information, visual identity, and editorial care.

  • museum Exhibition catalogues

Edizioni Ca’ Foscari collaborates with museums, libraries, and cultural institutions in the conception and publication of exhibition catalogues. In this area, we provide specific editorial, copy-editing, and project-based expertise, supporting the development of publications aimed at the documentation, interpretation, and valorisation of exhibition projects and cultural initiatives. Among the partners with whom we have collaborated are the Museo Nazionale Scienza e Tecnologia Leonardo da Vinci, the Museo d’Arte Orientale di Venezia, and the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana. These projects require a careful balance between scholarly rigour, editorial quality, and visual presentation, as well as particular attention to the relationship between critical texts, informational apparatus, and iconographic materials.

  • font_download Digital glossaries

We develop digital glossaries conceived as native online scholarly tools, organised by entries and structured through lexicographic content. This format is suited to projects that require targeted consultation, thematic organisation of content, and the possibility of progressive expansion of the resource.

The digital structure makes it possible to combine scholarly rigour, systematic organisation, and accessibility, making the glossary an effective tool both for specialised research and for the dissemination of knowledge structured according to lexical and conceptual criteria.

This format is especially appropriate for projects based on the analysis of vocabulary, the reconstruction of semantic fields, and the valorisation of textual corpora, in which entry-based consultation represents a primary mode of access to content. It is therefore not merely a form of online publication, but a true infrastructure for the organisation and transmission of knowledge, capable of integrating scholarly consistency, content queryability, and openness to future developments and updates.

  • video_settings Multimedia publications

Edizioni Ca’ Foscari develops multimedia publications, designed for projects in which a chapter-based structure is combined with video content, animated images, and visual examples. This format requires tailor-made editorial and digital design: defining the hierarchical structure of the content, organising relationships between different units, preparing dedicated graphic and typographic templates, and developing navigation across hierarchical levels. The platform is conceived as an evolving environment, capable of directly supporting video and GIF content, integrating new materials over time, and ensuring consistency, citability, and accessibility across all units of the resource. In this way, the multimedia publication becomes a dynamic editorial structure for organising and accessing knowledge. An example of this approach is the Grammatica della lingua dei segni italiana (LIS) in LIS, developed as an entirely multimedia editorial resource.

Research projects and international collaborations

Edizioni Ca’ Foscari participates in competitive research projects and international collaborations, providing editorial, digital, and infrastructural expertise in support of scholarly production and dissemination.

This includes projects funded by the European Research Council (ERC), in which editorial work is integrated with the development of digital resources, scholarly editions, and tools for accessing research data. In these contexts the editorial dimension does not merely concern the publication of research results, but contributes to defining the ways in which scholarly content is organised, represented, and disseminated, in close dialogue with research teams and within highly complex interdisciplinary projects.

Conference organisation and proceedings publication

Edizioni Ca’ Foscari supports the organisation of conferences and the publication of proceedings, offering an integrated service that covers all stages of the process, from the scholarly management of contributions to the editorial dissemination of results. In particular, ECF manages the submission and evaluation of abstracts, the peer review process, and the organisation of content through dedicated platforms designed to support structured and transparent editorial workflows. The publication of conference proceedings is fully integrated within the ECF publishing system, ensuring scholarly quality, editorial care, the assignment of persistent identifiers, and integration into academic communication channels.

In collaboration with the Fondazione Ca’ Foscari, ECF supports the organisation of conferences, enabling the integration of scholarly, editorial, and logistical aspects within a coordinated framework. This approach makes it possible to manage the entire conference lifecycle, from the call for papers to the publication of proceedings, ensuring consistency, efficiency, and quality throughout all stages of the process.
