Abstract

This essay focuses on the chronology of the canzone Dolce mia patria by Giovanni Gherardi da Prato. This poem refers to political events that have taken place few years or even months before the outbreak of Florence versus Milan war in 1390. By analysing Gherardi’s canzone, the reader can appreciate the influence of Petrarcha’s political writing in the Canzoniere as a model, as well as various links to other authors’ poems such as Francesco di Vannozzo and Simone Serdini.
