Introduction
Abstract
This chapter introduces two key concepts discussed in this monograph, failure and salvation, and the connection that is attributed to them by sixteenth-century Jesuit missionaries, especially in the Asian missions. It then delineates the scope of the research, its primary sources, and the structure of the monograph.
