Il turismo nelle aree marginali del Mezzogiorno: tra mito e realtà

Abstract

The paper explores the relationship between tourism and marginal areas, focusing on Italian inner areas. It examines governmental strategies aimed at enhancing their tourism potential, questioning whether they reflect a genuine understanding of local resources or reproduce institutional myths surrounding tourism-driven development. Using a mixed-method approach that combines quantitative data and qualitative insights from key informants, the analysis shows that, despite often holding more tourism assets than central areas, inner areas struggle to activate them due to structural constraints and deficit in policy coordination and implementation.
