Research Article | Interview with the Marquise
Abstract
London, November 1956. 75 year-old Luisa Casati in her parlour meets a Sicilian journalist, a man in his fifties. The point is an interview already negotiated and punctuated by five daily meetings, always arranged in the afternoon. As a matter of fact, the man is working on a report on d’Annunzio and his love affairs, for a small southern publisher. Their conversation takes place in growing tension and provocations from the lady, who is still able to seduce and puzzle the naïve guest, up to their abrupt farewell. But these five milestones are marked by the passing of time, with all those great love affairs and the wonderful parties in Piazza San Marco, which was confiscated by Luisa, her exotic animals, the black magic and much more.
