Abstract
The abundant written works in the four official Spanish languages based on the Civil War have been in need of a global study to establish the general trends of their development in the course of almost ninety years. The book, edited by Joan Oleza with the cooperation of fourteen specialists from various European and American universities, intends to meet this challenge. There are three main strands which cover the different chapters of the book: a diachronic view of both authors and works, an interrelationship between the concepts of narrative and memoir, and a point of view that takes into account the political basis of the literary products under analysis. In addition, and for the first time in Spanish literature studies, a study has been produced that analyses the similarities and the peculiarities in the writing of memoirs in Castilian, Catalan, Galician and Basque literature, as well as their connections, their options and alternatives, and historical change of their styles and contexts.
