Abstract

The Italian healthcare system shows significant territorial inequalities in service access, with a pronounced North-South divide. Results from this chapter highlight critical challenges in the South and Islands, exacerbated by structural and socio-economic deficiencies. Women in the South are particularly disadvantaged, even with adequate financial resources. Inequalities driven by income, gender, and territorial challenge the equity of the universal model, underscoring the need for targeted policies to rebalance resources and services.
